Summary: | There exist undeniable similarities both in structure and in content between the Gospel narratives of Jesus' miracles on the one hand and the accounts of wondrous deeds found in the other religious traditions, on the other. Such similarities comprise the means used by Jesus in his healing activity: laying on of hands, touching the eyes and the ears, using spittle. But the decisive means used by Jesus is his word, at once simple and supreme. The article attempts to describe the specific traits and the essential functions of Jesus' miracles. In him we are confronted with a unique model of wonder-worker—unique as is his very person. In him, word, work and being correspond to each other. |
