Description
Summary:In an attempt to clarify the problem of moral theology in its connections with spirituality, the author proposes to begin with spiritual experience and to make inquiries into it. A general description shows us three ethical profiles which, without in any way being opposed to one another, do not, nevertheless, coincide. These are three global ways of envisaging moral life, of which the two first appear clearly in Scripture: the ethical life is described under the form of spiritual combat or under the form of interpersonal attitudes such as confidence, humility etc.... The third profile is most important in our days: it can be called the humanist profile, inasmuch as resting on a general theology, it tries to describe the relations between the ethical order, whose structures are common to all men, and the order of faith. An ethical profile of this kind starts from a christian's attitude in the world so as to regain the supernatural life. In fact, each of these three profiles may predominate according to the types of spirituality. And one can also remark that their relative importance varies according to the development of the spiritual life.
