The Catholic Church and the Vatican State are both subject to international law. The two enjoy a 'real union' which consists in the fact that both have the pope as their commun head. The Holy See, supreme organ of the Universal Church, represents the two subjects (i.e., the Church and the Vatican State) but, in its relations with the international community, functions primarily in the name of the Church. |
