Sans apporter de nouveauté marquante sur le déroulement du conclave et sur les orientations des électeurs, la relation nous informe de la masse des problèmes d'administration et de cérémonial qui accompagnaient les conclaves, depuis les réceptions solennelles des représentants des grandes puissances jusqu'aux dispositions relatives au courrier. Pourtant la relation nous informe sur une importante particularité: l'élection de Mastai aurait été accélérée dans la crainte de l'arrivée de quelque cardinal absent, qui aurait pu prolonger notablement la durée du conclave. Here is published the exact text of the official relation of the Conclave of 1846. The authentic copy of Mgr. Corboli Bussi, Secretary of the Conclave, inexplicably missing from the pertinent case in the Vatican Archives where nonetheless it is catalogued, has been unexpectedly recovered in Spain. Although it does not provide significant new information regarding the course of events of the Conclave or regarding the disposition of the electors, the relation does provide us with minute information regarding the mass of administrative and ceremonial problems that accompanied conclaves — from the solemn reception of representatives of the great powers to the appointment of barbers and medical aides, and arrangements for the delivery of mail. The relation does, however, provide information regarding one important particular: the election of Mastai was rushed through, due to fear that the arrival of some cardinal of conservative cast might considerably prolong the Conclave. |
