Parmi ses papiers, dispersés en plusieurs archives et bibliothèques de Rome et du Vatican, et qui forment une source de la plus grande valeur pour l'histoire sociale et religieuse de la ville pontificale, les Memorie storiche du Concile Vatican I ont attiré l'attention des historiens. Le présent article soumet à un examen critique minutieux, avec de nombreuses références à une documentation inédite, le travail récent de L. Pásztor, qui a publié une partie des Memorie storiche de Tizzani. The final century of papal Rome enjoyed in the person of Mons. Vincenzo Tizzani (1809-92) — a blind prelate of many talents and interests and a great friend of the poet Belli — a chronicler and interpreter of rare delicacy and great lucidity. Among his papers, which are scattered in a variety of Roman and Vatican archives and libraries and which form a most valuable source for the social and religious history of the papal city, his Memorie storiche from the First Vatican Council have drawn the attention of historians. The present article examines, in critical detail and with numerous references to unpublished documents, the recent work by L. Pásztor who has published a part of Tizzani's Memorie storiche. |
