Il problema è qui affrontato in rapporto al dibattito filosofico recente sulle virtù dell’umiltà e della compassione e alla prospettiva dell’“etica delle virtù” di matrice aristotelico-tomista. The self-abnegation or self-denial implied by humility and compassion seem to make the relation between these virtues and human self-realization a paradoxical one. Actually they demand a deep change of mind about the concepts of ‘moral agent’, ‘virtue’, and, above all, ‘eudaimonia’ or ‘human flourishing’. This issue is here dealt with in relation to the recent philosophical debate on the virtues of humility and compassion and to the Aristotelian-Thomistic variety of ‘virtue ethics’. | ||
