La fantasia, nei discorsi circa la natura di Dio e il suo operare, genera errori e fraintendimenti. Ma è altrettanto vero che la Scrittura usa le immagini e che S. Tommaso ritiene assolutamente conveniente questa forma espressiva: misteriosa e chiarificante nello stesso tempo. E tanto è importante e ricco questo bagaglio metaforico, da essere un serbatoio di continua invenzione sotto lo sguardo intelligente e colto dell’Aquinate. Un esempio di interpretazione delle immagini della natura in chiave teologica è rappresentato dalla esposizione letterale del profeta Isaia. Esempio assai utile anche per chi, come il predicatore, fa della teologia, con la contemplazione, il metodo chiave per l’efficacia della comunicazione. In divinis imaginatio est ominino relinquenda: hitherto this thesis, in the theological reflection of St. Thomas Aquinas, has not be readily discussed. Fantasy, in the debates concerning the nature of God and his action, can generate errors and misunderstandings. Nonetheless, it is also true that the Scriptures make use of images and St. Thomas observes that this expressive form is absolutely convenient: it is, at the same time, mysterious and clarifying. This metaphorical erudition is also important and rich, as it is a source of continual invention under the intelligent and cultured eye of Aquinas. An example of the interpretation of the images of nature, in a theological manner, is represented by the literal exposition of the prophet Isaiah. This example is surely valuable especially since this is, for he who is the preacher, by means of theology, through contemplation, the key of an effective method of communication. |
