The paper aims to show the “gnostic” character of Spinoza’s theory of knowledge. In particular, intuition is presented by Spinoza as the source of true beatitude for the mind and elevated to the highest form of “gnosis”, beginning with Christ’s intuition of divine designs («de mente ad mentem»). Does intuition sanction a rupture with rational knowledge? Or, rather, does it not reassert it following the spinozian imperative of a «mathematical science of salvation»? | ||
