Summary: | Examining passages from Peter John Olivi’s Quodlibeta, and referring to the analysis of other Olivi’s writings proposed in preceding papers, the author presents first the idea that Franciscan brothers’ identity – an ecclesiastical concern – is the engine of a conceptual machine that gives a strong contribution to Western thought. By putting the conceptual distinction anomism/normativism applied to the Franciscan school into the service of historiography, the analysis aims at highlighting that Olivi – although he is clearly an anomist thinker – is perfectly knowledgeable in juridical matters. This impression is actually confirmed by his position in relation to the question of potentia Dei, in which he appears to be attempting at limiting the pontifical power instead of celebrating its unlimitedness. |
