De 1911 à 1928, les discours des fondateurs et des orateurs des assemblées reflètent et fabriquent une identité protestante française, trans-Églises, sur fond de mémoire de minorité résistante. The Musée du Désert, which celebrates its centenary this year, was created by the Society for the History of French Protestantism and based on already existing Protestant places of commemoration: first by the rescue, in 1880, of the birthplace of the Camisard leader Roland at the Mas Soubeyran, then by the creation in that house, in 1910-1911, of a museum dedicated to the period of the Désert, from the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes to the French Revolution, and finally by the institutionalization of an annual commemorative assembly at the site of the museum. The founders of the project in 1910, Frank Puaux, president of the Society, and his friend Edmond Hugues, asssembled the Museum, built a Memorial Building (completed in 1922), and organized the assemblies around the museum. From 1911 to 1928 the speeches by the founders and by other orators at the assemblies reflected, and constructed, a French Protestant identity embracing the different denominations, on the basis of the memory of the resistant minority. Das Musée du Désert, das nunmehr seit einem Jahrhundert besteht, wurde von der Société de l'Histoire du Protestantisme Français (SHPF) an einem bereits vorhandenen protestantischen «Erinnerungsort» auf- und ausgebaut. Zunächst wurde 1880 das Geburtshaus des Kamisardenführers Roland im Mas Soubeyran (Cevennen) vor dem Verfall gerettet. Sodann kam es dort in den Jahren 1910 bis 1911 zur Einrichtung eines der Zeit der «Wüste» gewidmeten Museums, das die Periode zwischen dem Widerruf des Edikts von Nantes und der Französischen Revolution dokumentiert. Und schließlich wurde auf dem Gelände des Museums eine alljährlich stattfindende protestantische Gedenkveranstaltung zur festen Einrichtung erhoben. Diese Entwicklung wurde in erster Linie von Frank Puaux, dem damaligen Präsidenten der SHPF, und seinem Freund Edmond Hugues vorangetrieben. Sie waren es, die ab 1910 das Museum einrichteten, eine 1922 fertiggestellte Gedenkstätte entwarfen und die ersten Jahresversammlungen organisierten. Die aus diesem Anlaß von 1911 bis 1928 gehaltenen Ansprachen der «Gründerväter» und die Vorträge eingeladener Festredner trugen zur Herausbildung einer französisch-protestantischen Identität bei, die sich überkirchlich begreift und auf der Erinnerung an eine verfolgte Minderheit fußt. |
