A cette grande visibilité au sein de la communauté protestante, ils joignent cependant une grande discrétion dans la ville même de Saintes. Saintes, which was defined in 1802 as the central town of the Church consistory, had the smallest Protestant urban community in Charente-Inférieure. The very energetic inhabitants played an important, but disputed, role in the administration of the consistory and also in the dissemination of Evangelical teachings in the department. However, despite their high profile within the Protestant community, they maintained a very discreet presence within the town of Saintes itself. Die Stadt Saintes galt ab 1802 als «chef-lieu» der Konsistorialkirche. Die Protestanten dort bildeten die kleinste Stadtgemeinde des Bezirks Charente-Inférieure. Die sehr dynamischen Gemeindemitglieder spielten eine wichtige, zugleich umstrittene Rolle sowohl in der Verwaltung des Konsistoriums als auch für die Verbreitung evangelischen Gedankenguts innerhalb des Bezirks. Mit ihrer Visibilität in der protestantischen Gesellschaft verbanden sie allerdings eine bemerkenswerte Diskretion innerhalb der Stadt. |
