Description
Summary:Since the Synods of Bishops on marriage and family 2014/2015, the implementation of a marriage catechumenate has been increasingly demanded, not least by Pope Francis. However, concrete information on pastoral realization is largely lacking. The high expectations of the marriage catechumenate are unlikely to be fulfilled, as the example of a French pastoral experiment in the 1970s shows. A marriage catechumenate strictly oriented to the baptismal catechumenate is, as it turns out, theologically questionable and pastoral hardly to be realized. Nevertheless, catechumenal elements can be significant for an intensification of the pre-marital pastoral care.
