Summary: | Hugo Rahner contributed substantially to the revival of Origen in 20th-century Catholic theology. In his articles about Origen’s spirituality and anthropology he was mainly interested in grounding the moral, ascetic and spiritual efforts of human beings in God’s grace received through baptism. Against the backdrop of his own Ignatian spirituality Rahner detected in the Christian Greek Origen a model of his ideal of a Christian humanism in which Hellenic culture and Christian belief are combined in the sense that the former comes to fulfilment in the latter. |
