Description
Summary:This work presents the evidence of three witnesses to the text of 11QTorah, also known as the Temple Scroll. Yigael Yadin's editio princeps of 1977 and reprint, with a few changes, in 1984, draws almost entirely on manuscript 11QTa, which is now in the Shrine of the Book in Jerusalem. This publication contains the remains of three other manuscripts — 11QTb, 11QTc, and 4QparaTorah, now in the Rockefeller Museum in Jerusalem. If I am not mistaken, these fragments exhaust all presently known manuscripts of 11QTorah. The remains of the three manuscripts made available here considerably enrich the knowledge of the text of 11QTorah. Many of the fragments of the three manuscripts replicate the readings of 11QTa, giving assurance that the fragments come from the same work. Other fragments fill gaps in parts of 11QTa that have perished. What has been a conjectural reconstruction by Yadin is hereby either confirmed or replaced with either probable or certain new readings. Long stretches of text hitherto lost or misread have their correct or probable readings restored. As such, this publication is an important supplement to anyone possessing a copy of Yadin's original edition.
