Summary: | This study is based on a new forthcoming Hebrew edition of all the extant grammatical works of Judah Ḥayyuj by Dr. Naphtaly Kinberg (the Arabic material and translation of the original manuscripts) and the present author (comprehensive introduction to Ḥayyuj's grammatical theories). No previous attempt has ever been made to deal comprehensively with the historical contributions of Ḥayyuj to the understanding of Biblical Hebrew grammar as based on his treatises. The present article, a concise summary of one of the important aspects of Ḥayyuj's grammatical works, sheds light on the modern study of Biblical Hebrew, namely Biblical Hebrew roots and quiescents. |
