Summary: | The story of Saul at En-Dor features many problems that cannot be solved in a synchronic way. So far diachronic approaches could eliminate only some of the tensions. By means of lexical comparison to other stories of the Saul cycle secondary elements could be sorted out. Therefore a coherent basic story is outlined (7-8*.11—12a.13.15*.16aα.19*.20a) that might be dated to the 8th century BCE. This story lacks the verdict on necromany, Dtr. reworking is responsible for further additions giving the story a negative touch. |
