Sumario: | The biblical evidence for "Hittites" can be divided into three groups: I) "H." as an indigenous population in Pre-Israelite Canaan, II) "H." in the environment of David, and III) "H." living outside Palestine. The evidence for the third group is clearly related to the Neo-Hittite states in northern Syria and its environs. Regarding the data for the other groups, the paper intends to demonstrate that they are based on the presence of Hurrian-Indo-Aryan groups in Palestine who were called "Hittites" on account of their cultural relations to the former Mittanian, later Hittite dominated regions in Syria. |
