Summary: | The author argues that the accession to the throne mentioned in a historical text about events during the rule of the Hittite king Muršili II (KBo 50.24+) refers to Haremhab (Arma'a), not Aya or Arnuwanda II. As a consequence of the synchronism "Muršili's year 8 or 9 = Haremhab's year 1" the pharao whose death is recorded in the Deeds of Šuppiluliuma most likely is Smenkhkare, not Tutankhamun or Akhenaten. He points out, in addition, that according to the omen tablet KUB 4.63 the much debated sun omen in Muršili II's tenth regnal year (KUB 14.4) should be interpreted as an eclipse indicating a threat to the king's life. |
