Description
Summary:The Latin C version of the Evangelium Nicodemi is most important for its account of the Descensus Christi ad inferos, which includes a final scene not found in Latin A or B. It is represented by only seven extant manuscripts, but the construction of a definitive stemma is hampered by the poor condition of one of its earliest manuscripts as well as by frequent scribal correction and creativity. A modern critical edition will also be forced to confront difficulties caused by the apparently corrupt state of the text of the underlying exemplar from which all seven manuscripts ultimately descend.
