| Summary: | This paper begins with an introduction about the cento genre, an extreme form of paraphrasis, and summarizes the information on the two main collections of Homerocentra, i. e. homeric centones on the Incarnation, life and Passion of Christ. Although the canonical Gospels are their main source, an influence of apocryphal traditions can be established in some cases. On the other hand, the centonists treated some topics for which no direct model was available, and their text can achieve there a certain apocryphal status. Examples are given from the collection of Homerocentra of which the author will shortly publish the first complete and critical edition in the Sources Chretiennes series. |
