Description
Summary:The person of Clement is the conflation of four - partially historical, partially literary - figures. According to our hypothesis, the hero either of a hellenized Jewish novel or of a Jewish apologetic dialogue and Flavius Clemens, consul with his uncle Domitian in 95 and executed on the charge of atheism, are one and the same person. The popularity of Clement seems to be asserted by his presence in the Talmud where he is found under the name of Keti'a bar Shalom ; this might explain why he passed first to the Jewish hellenisitic literature and then found his way into the Pseudo-Clementines.
