Summary: | Clement's works contain a variety of Gospel sayings, often in harmonized form, and other Gospel harmonies that have been identified by others as « extracanonical » traditions. These texts show similarities with variant materials in the work of Justin Martyr. The present paper analyzes all available material and attempts to redefine the similarities and differences. These patterns could be explained in various ways, but it is most likely that they were based on long time catechetical school practises and / or connected to homiletical and liturgical traditions. |
