| Summary: | In a letter to the author of this article dated June 5, 1972, Bultmann wrote that his contact with Heidegger began when Bultmann read him his book on Jesus, which at that time had not yet been published. Heidegger advised Bultmann to add the term "Wirkungszusammenhang" (coherence of effect) to page 1 of the introduction. At this point he knew nothing of Heidegger's thoughts. There were doubts expressed regarding the accuracy of Bultmann's memory. In order to be able to form an opinion in this regard, it is necessary to examine Kierkegaard's and Dilthey's reception by Heidegger the philosopher and Bultmann the theologian. An examination of this nature is undertaken by the author of this article. The result is that doubts about the accuracy of what Bultmann wrote in his letter are unwarranted, above all in view of the term "Wirkungsgeschichte" (history of effect), which is so central to Dilthey's philosophy. |
