Description
Summary:James 2:14—16, a well thought-out critique of the Pauline thesis of justification by faith alone, does not think of the Pauline expression 'works of the law' in the sense of ancient Judaism's ethno-religious identity markers, as the 'New Perspective on Paul' does, but rather 'traditionally' in the sense of the active fulfillment of God's law. A possible reason for such an understanding of Paul could be the fact that by 'works of the law' Paul did indeed mean the active fulfillment of the law rather than Jewish identity markers.
