Σύνοψη:The Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification was issued by the Lutheran World Federation and the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity. It was presented to the authorities in charge in Rome and to the Lutheran churches world-wide in 1997 so that a resolution could be passed on it. The author of this article outlines the history of the Joint Declaration and some of its individual passages and compares some of its problematic points with the decrees issued by the Council of Trient. He asks what form a resolution on the Joint Declaration could take in order to demonstrate responsibility from a theological point of view.
