Description
Summary:This article describes the influence of the Indian philosophy of Vedanta in the western concept of spirituality, regarded as a search for the truth, of an experimental nature and opposed to the religious obscurantism and hierarchy. This type of spirituality, influenced by the Orient and developed mainly after the sixties, can be observed more sharply in the contemporary concepts of secularism, rationality and hybridism, all characteristics of the New Age Movement. To develop this theme, issues such as the crisis of meaning and reflexivity, features of modern individuals, residents of complex societies, will be discussed, with the aim of understanding those who see themselves, in the present day, as "non-religious" or “spiritualized but not religious".
