Description
Summary:In comparison with the flood of books published on Islamic law, works on Islamic ethics constitute only a trickle, but a steadily increasing one. A Companion to Muslim Ethics is a useful addition to the field, complementing existing specialized collections on medical and political ethics. Amyn Sajoo, the author of two books on Muslim ethics and modernity, provides a thoughtful introduction, which is followed by ten substantive chapters. Three focus on genres: art, literature, and philosophical ethics (which Charles Butterworth treats under the title “early thought”). The other seven are topical, addressing ecology, gender, health care, economy dispute resolution, tolerance, and nonviolence.
