Description
Summary:Although the subtitle of this book promises us African and Caribbean as well as North American voices, the contributors actually teach in the United States, and African and Caribbean perspectives are, in fact, very muted. As far as I can judge, only one contributor is African (Jacob Olupona), and his contribution is more anthropological than ethical. The one essay about Rastafarianism is interesting but, of course, touches on only a tiny facet of the ethical dilemmas in the Caribbean. The very different perspectives that might have come from, say, Jamaica, Trinidad, and the hugely different cultures of the African continent are missing.
