Description
Summary:In this monograph, Dorian Llywelyn skillfully weaves together historical data and theological concepts with scholarship focused on nationalism and human identity in order to suggest some building blocks for moving Toward a Catholic Theology of Nationality. Llywelyn's title indicates the scope of his project. In surveying Catholic scholarship, he finds no systematic treatment of nationality within theological reflection, the tradition, or Catholic social teaching. Llywelyn notes that analysis concerning the relationship between church and state is bountiful within the Catholic tradition. However, nationality understood as a concept connected to core human identity is addressed only with inconsistency, poetic license, and through association.
