Summary: | This stimulating collection comprises a foreword by Alan Kreider, a preface by the editors (who also contribute an introduction to Christopher Rowland’s work), and fifteen papers, all but five of which refer directly to Rowland’s writings; a response by Rowland, a biographical sketch of him, his bibliography, and an index. The papers, written in honour of Rowland, the Dean Ireland’s Professor of the Exegesis of Holy Scripture at the University of Oxford, clearly show the writers’ respect for his work and affection for his person (to a number of them he is known as ‘Chris’). There is no sense that any of the writers, on being asked to contribute, reached into a drawer and drew out a hitherto unpublished morsel. |
