Description
Summary:This volume gathers together three articles, all quite substantial, and closes with a long discussion of the theories/theologies of the person advanced by the Greek thinkers Christos Yannaras and John Zizioulas (Metropolitan John of Pergamon). They are all sharply critical in tone; Larchet defends the ‘vigorously critical character’ of these texts by remarking that ‘if one puts on one side all the texts of the Fathers that present such a character, one would be left with practically nothing’ (p. 7)—an exaggeration that is not untypical of the volume as a whole, and not only an exaggeration, but an assertion that seems to ignore what is the core of patristic literature, commentary on the Scriptures, which is more often pastoral than polemical.
