Description
Summary:This book is the most important interpretation of Jonathan Edwards’s philosophical theology in a generation. Its aim is twofold: first, to critique the ‘dispositional ontology’ thesis of Edwards’s doctrine of God, a view popular with many interpreters over the last 25 years; and second, to replace that with a new interpretation that Crisp claims renders Edwards’s doctrine of God more intelligible, internally self-consistent, and historically situated. As an accomplished philosophical theologian, Crisp is thoroughly conversant with Edwards’s writings and he possesses the skill of isolating specific problems that surface in Edwards’s thought and tackling them with precision, focus, and depth.
