Description
Summary:When I first picked up this book, I was captured by its golden, embossed title for several minutes. Not the subtitle, to be clear; ‘The Crucial Nature of the Persian and Hellenistic Periods’ appropriately identifies what biblical scholarship has been coming to recognize. And this work’s ‘sub-subtitle’, if I may, ‘Essays in Honor of Douglas A. Knight’, clearly expresses this work’s goal of honouring the substantial work of an important scholar on the occasion of his 70th birthday. It was the main title, ‘Focusing Biblical Studies’, that gave me pause. Titles are a dime a dozen; I’ve written good ones and bad ones. Good titles are those that don’t merely label a work, they describe it; Berquist and Hunt have given us an excellent example of this.
