Falque promises a ‘simple’ and ‘incisive’ account (p. 11) of his standpoint, in six chapters modelled on Descartes’ Discourse on Method and Bonaventure’s Itinerarium mentis in Deum. However, the tension between these models, the former a charter of modern autonomous rationality and the latter a summit of medieval absorption of philosophy into theology, courts ambiguity. |
