Using a method which is historical and exegetical, she deftly and expertly traces the development of the role of memory in Augustine’s thought, her expressed aim being to make a contribution towards a picture of an Augustinian theory of knowledge., The book is divided into three parts: in Part I she explores the meaning and use of memory in the mainstream Platonic tradition as it developed, with a chapter on each of the three major figures—Plato, Aristotle, and Plotinus. | ||
