Summary: | The Cascade Companions series aspires to make accessible to the general reader the ‘embarrassment of riches’ that the Christian theological tradition has to offer. Andrew Radde-Gallwitz makes good on this aspiration in his volume on St Basil., Radde-Gallwitz frames his treatment of Basil’s Trinitarian (five chapters, two on the Son and three on the Spirit) and christological teaching (one chapter) with introductory and concluding chapters. In the introduction, he offers several ‘points of orientation’ whose aim is twofold: to bring the reader into the theological, ecclesial, and political environment of the fourth century, one that is so very different from our own; and to give a sense of how his book finds a place in the contemporary scholarly study of Basil. |
