Summary: | Monographs on Paul, Jesus, or the gospels are almost two a penny now. Synopses are much rarer on the ground! Hence the appearance of a new synopsis of the gospels is something of a publishing ‘event’., Crook’s synopsis is entirely in English. Indeed it seems to be created precisely for those who do not know any Greek at all (or any other ancient language). The text of each gospel is given in English, with the texts of the three synoptics set out in parallel where they are (deemed to be) parallel. A notable feature here is the inclusion of a separate column giving the text of Q (as well as Matthew and Luke), taking the text from the Critical Edition (of Robinson et al.). In addition, parallels from John and Thomas are also provided where it is deemed appropriate. |
