Description
Summary:The topic of this substantial monograph is indicated by its subtitle; it implicitly raises a question to which the main title gives the implicit answer. Dr Tiemeyer starts from the fact that the Babylonian origin of Isaiah 40–55 is one of the few convictions that remain a largely unquestioned consensus in biblical scholarship. She observes that any such consensus deserves to be tested and she rightly describes the arguments for the consensus as ‘not particularly compelling’; the material’s Babylonian provenance ‘rests upon a shaky foundation’ (pp.1–2).
