Description
Summary:This volume is the paperback edition of a hardback original published in 2008 (not reviewed in JTS), one in the growing Blackwell Bible Commentaries series which look at interaction with individual biblical books ‘through the centuries’. About a dozen have been published so far, with another twenty or so projected. They thus join the burgeoning field of the study of ‘reception history’, an approach to the Bible which (like other approaches) has been adapted to biblical scholarship from literary studies. One of its assumptions is that a text’s potential significance is bound not to get realized in any one cultural context, so that looking at the way it has been ‘received’ in other contexts will help us gain more access to its significance.
