| Summary: | ‘It was an interest in “outing” Jesus scholarship from its closeted life in biblical scholarship, in order to situate it explicitly within larger ideological political contexts’ (p. 2) which led to a conference in Oslo (2007) hosting the eight papers collected here. They consider ‘the role of the figure of Jesus in negotiating, commenting upon and reflecting modern issues of identity, especially national identity, in a time at which the self-evidence and clarity of the nation-state is being radically called into question’ (p. 99).
