Description
Summary:This collection of articles is one in a rapidly growing corpus of books, both monographs and edited volumes, which deals with aspects of ‘exile’. All the articles are of a consistently high standard., J. C. Gertz argues that the concept of ‘deportation’ did not develop into a concept of ‘exile’ until the late Neo-Babylonian period. The earliest layers of Amos refer to deportations as part of its repertory of prophecies of doom in the same manner as Assyrian texts employ deportations as part of their political propaganda. Only the latest layers (e.g. Amos 7:10–17) attest to a full-fledged concept of exile., M.
