Summary: | This is a volume of what the author characterizes as ‘philosophical reflection’ in a time of renewed and radical questioning about the existence of God. As the title indicates, it is concerned with God, being, and the ever-changing complex dynamics of relationship between these concepts through the ages. It is focused on writing in continental Europe, especially around the work of Kierkegaard and Heidegger, both of whom have been subjects of the author's specialist research for many years., The study is divided into seven densely written chapters, clearly not for the faint-hearted. An introduction starts from Heidegger's critique of ‘onto-theology’ and asks whether anything can be salvaged from the debris. No easy conclusions can be drawn—this is precisely an enquiry. |
