In Berlin he met in Tholuck a kindred spirit, another theologian–orientalist whose priorities also lay in the defence of Christianity against modern rationalism. Tholuck's deep piety and ‘modern orthodoxy’ was already based on an appeal to the experience of sin and redemption whereas Pusey came to rely on the authority of the Fathers. | ||
