Summary: | This collection of essays has a somewhat complicated prehistory. The conference on which it is based was first envisaged in 2001, but for various reasons it was not until 2007 that a group of Israeli and British-based scholars met at Tel Aviv. The introductory material includes an unexpectedly detailed programme of that conference, noting the times of coffee breaks and the like; it seems that 17 papers were delivered, but at least four of them are not reproduced in this collection, while others appear under different titles. Characteristically, however, Lester Grabbe is able to dispel some of the confusion by providing brief summaries of the papers that have made it to the final collection, indicating quite clearly in some cases where he does not agree with the arguments he is summarizing. |
