Summary: | The Psalms as Christian Worship is not an easy book to review for a British academic readership. Professor Bruce Waltke is a respected senior spokesperson in the conservative evangelical community in America, but he recently caused a stir on the SBL website by publishing an outspoken review of a commentary on Proverbs, which questioned the value of biblical criticism and affirmed instead the primary role of faith in scholarship and, with this, the authority of Scripture ‘as originally given’. There is much evidence of these views in Waltke's Prologue to the Commentary which is the subject of this review. |
