| Summary: | Denise Inge has made Thomas Traherne the focus of her considerable abilities as a researcher and historical theologian for some years now. In addition to a number of published articles, she produced a Traherne reader, entitled Happiness and Holiness, in the Canterbury Press Spiritual Theology Series in 2008, and has now followed this up in a well-presented and well-argued monograph based on her doctoral dissertation. She has immersed herself in Traherne, and in Traherne scholarship, including the work of Jeremy Maule—who was responsible for discovering five hitherto unknown works by Traherne in Lambeth Palace Library in 1997—as well as Calum McFarlane and Nabil Matar, with Donald Allchin and David Ford among others hovering in the background as catalysts. |
