The elegant translation is the collective work of the inmates of Notre-Dame de Wisques, and the very brief introduction and notes are by A. de Vogüé. There is one index, of quotations from the Bible., This enormous work can hardly have been meant for continuous reading: rather for selective use by those in search of moral lessons in the Book of Job. The modern reader finds it hard to accept the openness of the author’s mind. |
