Summary: | In this volume Christoph Markschies presents a diverse collection of thirteen of his articles on Origen, composed over the course of more than a decade. These contributions treat topics as various as the vexed question of the historicity of Origen’s alleged castration, the significance of his doctrine of God for debates in contemporary Catholic systematic theology, and Eusebius’ account of Origen’s life as a case study for evaluating the often criticized literary quality of Eusebius’ writing. Yet the multiple perspectives Markschies introduces neither compete as mutually exclusive interpretative options nor function so independently as to render their conclusions irrelevant to one another. |
