| Summary: | Paul was for Origen all that he was for Calvin or Augustine, bequeathing to him not only a doctrine of justification by faith as revealed in works, but an unfailing supply of specifics against false teachers and a series of lessons in the reading of Scripture through the lens of the incarnation. Origen’s commentary on Romans survives in Latin; this volume collects the remains of all the others, with concise synopses of each in the introduction, together with observations on the authority of the catenae from which most of our Greek fragments are derived. The Greek or Latin text is printed on facing pages to an Italian version by the editor; the annotation is full and succinct, communicating all that the reader needs to know without a superfluous display of erudition. |
