Summary: | Keith Ward is well known as a distinguished, lucid, and robust theological author who writes both scholarly and popularizing studies. This book belongs to the latter category, and is a sequel to his What the Bible Really Teaches (2004). Unlike with some of his other works, however, which I have much appreciated and learned from, I have found myself struggling somewhat here., On one level, there is perhaps no problem. Ward articulates an informed Christian understanding of the Bible as a spiritual book, which is to be interpreted in the light of Christ. ‘The Bible is not a text-book of true facts and doctrines. It is the witness to life-changing discernments of God, which occur as the events of human history are seen in the light of the eternal reality of God’ (p. 148). |
